MoneyWiz 2 - Personal Finance App Reviews

Moved from Microsoft Money

After more than 16 years of using Microsoft Money, I have finally found something both affordable and fairly easy to use. There’s a bit of a learning curve, of course, which is to be expected after years of using the same old software. But this is the closest thing I have found to my old favorite. I can view/edit/add transactions on my iPad, iPhones and Apple Watch. it’s very easy to use once it’s set up correctly. My biggest hesitation in switching from Money (which I ran on my Mac through a series of hacks) was being able to forecast way into the future. Too many apps out there seem to focus on budgets. I’m sure that helps a lot of people, otherwise it wouldn’t be such a big hit, and this app does have a section for budgets, but it’s priority is to put you in the driver’s seat and let you see how you spend your money. I am glad I found this app and I’m glad I made the switch.

Works well but not perfect

I like MoneyWiz. I came from Money from Jumsoft which was a piece of garbage (especially syncing between different devices was horrible…) and so MoneyWiz is a nice and much better alternative. Easy entering of transactions and syncing works perfectly, at least so far (which has been over a year already…). And although I can recommend this app to anyone there are a few shortcomings that might be addressed in the future or might not (some of those might only be problematic to me but still): * income and expense categories are separate, this means that one cannot assign income categories to budgets, reports can only be created either for income or expense categories (it is really annoying that there is no way to get a balance report over ALL categories) * if one has accounts in different currencies, the exchange rate used is not consistent and in some cases doesn’t make sense to me * no investment accounts Overall I am a very happy customer and can recommend MoneyWiz.

Horrible

Horrible app. When the calendar is created the transaction, it appears that the time does not coincide with that I put! I use it sinse 2013. Make app better! Dont be lazy!

Recent stability issues

Great app but recently I have had many stability issues where the app crashes when I try to do normal actions like record a purchase or reconcile purchases. Fix this and it’s back to five stars.

Great App

Keep in mind, I am a person with very simple needs — as long as I can balance my accounts against the online websites and statements, I’m a happy camper. The only thing I would like to see is the round logo button in upper left corner that is used to bring up the sign-in for sync bits — it needs to be a toggle that also initiates the action to sign out of sync bits instead of forcing the user to go up to the command bar, drop down a menu, and click to sign out. Other than that, I am usually a ok with it. Original comments apply to new version. Am happier with redesigned input screen, which has a drop down for comments as opposed to going to a new dialog box. Still good in Version 2.0

STOP forcing us to rate your product!

I paid for the product, I love the product. What I don’t love is every other day having to to let you know if I want to rate it or not. You are basically saying, ‘Hey, we will nag you forever unless you rate us’. I would expect more from a ‘not inexpensive’ app. Yes, I love your product….stop making me dislike the developers.

Very Good, but still a way to go

MoneyWiz 2 is very good. I have used MoneWiz on and off for several years, starting with version 1. I have also extensively used Quicken (2007, Essentials) and iBank. And I tried MoneyDance and MoneyWell. iBank is the best of all of those by far, but still seriously lacking. Below I will compare MW2 primarily to iBank. The others aren’t worth mentioning. Pro’s of MW2: Best synchronization between devices - by far. It is flawless! They appear to have developed MW2 for mac and iOS in parallel, and it shows in the sync process. Best budgeting process of any system I have used, including Quicken, which had the best budgeting process in the past. iBank is cumbersome and takes forever to set up. I don’t use it. MW2 budgets have a truly simple interface on all the devices, including iPhone, which makes it very easy to instantly check where any given budget line from my phone. Auto transaction Download is truly automated - no buttons to push, and after I make changes, categories, Refunds etc. It just resync’s itself. Recognizing transfers is not flawless, but far better than iBank. iBank sometimes creates transfers out of transactions in different accounts with the same $$ amount. OFX import on iPad is amazing. My local bank doesn’t support auto download. On my iPad, I can go to the bank site and export the history I want. Then it asks what app I want to open it in. MW2 is one of the apps. It really is possible to do everything on an iPad. iBank doesn’t support that at all. MW2 has frequent updates, and they aren’t just bug fixes. There is realy feature and funtionality improvement in each release. Needs improvement: No Investment Account support. This is a big one for anyone, who wants to manage invesment activity, or those who write checks out of their investment account. MW has been committing this feature for years, starting in MW1. I am still using iBank in parallel to keep track of my investment accounts. It also serves as a continuous comparison between the two systems. Auto category recognition still needs work. It works most of the time, but sometimes when it doesn’t know what to do, MW2 “makes up” a category instead of leaving it blank The Data entry window is cumbersome. Entering directly into the register would be faster and easier The register has only one line. It is more difficult to see everything that with two lines per transaction. Creating refunds out of deposits that are a return is cumbersome and time consuming. It would be far easier to just assign the deposit to the expense category. Final analysis: No Financial Management package is perfect. However, all things considered, MW is the best of all. The things in which MW2 excels (especially device syncing, budgeting and transaction download/import) far outweigh the things it doesn’t do well. The only thing standing in the way of a 5-star rating is the lack of investment account support. Hopefully they will soon have that, and I can use only MW2.

Great App

Sync works great. Like the ability to enter transaction from Today screen on iPhone. One suggestion - ability to have a split transaction where one portion is an expense and another is a transfer. This would also apply for a paycheck where a portion goes into a savings account and the rest goes into a checking account. Otherwise, great app. BUT IT NEEDS TO STOP CONSTANTLY ASKING ME TO REVIEW THE APP!!!!!!!! NEXT TIME I WILL DROP THE REVIEW TO 1 STAR!!!!!!!!!

Great App!

This app is great! I just converted from a popular windows banking software and I REALLY like Moneywiz, also Moneywiz had connections to a few of my accounts that the previous software wouldn’t connect to. It works great on all of my devices and in general is really easy to use. I cannot review any of the report features because i haven’t really used them yet. Product was a little expensive but the software is very similar to what i used & paid previously. The one thing that I don’t like is that when you pay a scheduled event on the same day or ahead of the scheduled date the event goes away, i wish it would stay there and just somehow indicate that it has already been entered in the the transaction journal until the date has passed, but very minor. GREAT APP!

Money Wiz

I really like this app. For my purposes, which are mostly budgeting and tracking my accounts, it meets all my needs. And, so far, it has been totally reliable.

Great

Continues to get better with each update. Reporting capabilities are fantastic.

Best Mac Finance Software

I’ve tried Quicken for Mac 2015, Moneydance and iBank and Moneywiz beats them all. Moneywiz customer service is also excellent.

Very Satisfied

So far so good! And the automatic update of accounts works awesome when traveling abroad.

Great app - except for the fact it nags you to rate it in each version

Every. Single. Time. You. Open. It. So guys, here’s your review. I contacted your support about it, gave my candid feedback, was basically told there wasn’t much that could be done, except get a three inch banner across my screen every time I went to do something. So here’s your review: Product? 4 stars. Pushiness? 1 star. Client response? 1 star. Average? 2 stars. The fact that in the area that asks for your review (thumbs up or down), the thumbs up leads you to the app store. The thumbs down leads you elsewhere, and doesn’t let you leave an actual review.

MoneyWiz 2

I’ve been using MoneyWiz since 2012 and I have it on my MacBook Pro, iPad air 2 and iPhone 6. MoneyWiz is an excellent program and I highly recommend it.

Lay off asking for reviews

Almost every time I open any of the apps (iphone, ipad, or mac) these guys ask for my review. So here it is: 1 star for constantly bothering me about reviewing your product. If more people wrote 1 star reviews in the app stores about this specific issue, it might actually get removed in some future update. The app itself is great. The constant needling for a review, not so much.

A Very Good App

I use this as my go to app for finance. I like the idea that they are all (Mac, iOS) full fledged and standalone apps. They have been working flawlessly for me. Thanks for keeping this app alive and continually updating. GLC

Quality Personal Finance App

MoneyWiz 2 is a big step up from the previous MoneyWiz. The new app is very handy for keep track of your personal finances which would include, checking accounts, savings accounts and various credit cards. MoneyWiz 2 does a great job importing finance data from different sites. For instance you can download credit card transactions for monthly statments and put it right on to MoneyWiz and MoneyWiz updates your credit card balance with ease. Other futures that work really well are the schduled payments, statistics data, and the simplicity of the app. One of the futures that really doesnt work well is it’s loan calculator. It has a hard time adjusting for different intrest rates or for instance you pay more then the statment balance, the loan caluclator doesnt account for this and then the loan data gets off track. All in all I believe MoneyWiz is one of the better personal finance apps and it defiantly is the best buy for your buck.

Don’t forget the subscription fees… not mentioned

Pay the $19.99, then, in order to use the bank function, you have to pay a subscription. The developer should mention this in the description. I don’t mind paying $4.99 a month, just don’t hide it like a scammer.

Great Alternative to Microsoft Money

This app is easy to use and has a modern feel/interface. What I find most helpful is the balance forecasting feature. The graphical display makes it easy to see the future trends, and most importantly, when a certain account runs out of money and may need a transfer from another account. You can view the forecast for one account at a time or any combination of accounts. This was the feature that I liked most in MS Money and have always had trouble finding in other apps,..until now. The syncing feature is also helpful so that I can access info. on my computer or phone. I’ve tried many other less expensive apps. This one works great and is worth the money.
