MoneyWiz 2 - Personal Finance App Reviews

100 add

Finally a good alternative to MS Money

Purchased over a year ago but felt it wasn’t user friendly at that time. Acquired several others since, only to find them more suitable for the trash bin. Recently decided to give it another go, after trashing Quicken. Setting it up can be somewhat confusing, but once completed, found it to be great for day to day and monthly transactions. Provides excellent reports, as well as the ability to tailor various catagories around one’s needs.

No contest: the best so far

Im obsessive-compulsive when it comes to my finances. Ive used several money apps in the past. This is so far the best Ive ever used. Just hope to find another feature where you can trasnfer budgets from one budget account to another.

Great!

I love this because it is simple to use and doesn’t require me to automatically download banking transactions which seem to always have issues with other finance programs.

lay off the requests

Your product is fantastic! I’ve already written about it. Lay off asking for reviews, please.

Great Product BUT Horrid in begging for reviews

Love the product, but every week it hounds me to write a review. So here it is, (5 Star product) 3 stars for the harassment … next time 2 stars then ONE. Hope you like my review…. stop it already.

Great for Simple Stuff; Not Great for My Needs

MoneyWiz 2 is a very good program for those who have a simple need to just balance accounts and keep track of cash. Unfortunately, I needed something that can handle more complicated transactions involving splits, etc., as well as something that can handle investments; so, I went back to Quicken. Maybe when the app matures and more features are added, I’ll reconsider it. Things for the Developer to consider (not exhaustive but are the ones that bugged me the most): 1. Allows splits for expenses and deposits. 2. When setting up a Loan Account, I don’t want to be forced to use the loan payment set-up wizard. 3. Have the option of prepopulating the scheduled expenses as a look-ahead on account balances. 4. Add Investment Accounts, e.g. brokerage accounts, 401k’s, etc. I hope this review helps.

Very straightforward - Nothing I don’t need, but everything I do.

I think that the title of my review says it all. If you want a program that will make all sorts of suggestions on how to manage your personal finances, there are others out there. If you are able to balance your own finances, and dare I say life in general, than you’ll find MoneyWiz to be what you’re looking for.

Fantastic Money Management Software — Especially for One

I don’t manage money for anyone other than myself, and I think based on how MoneyWiz is set up, it might be difficult to do more than just one person. But they do have a paid feature where it syncs up accounts and online banks so that management between couples or more is a little easier. I love this app because as soon as I make any purchase, whether it’s in cash or wether its in my checking account, I can track where my money is going. I simply keep whatever receipt for a purchase, and log it in as soon as I can. I occasionally will double check that MoneyWiz’s records and my bank have the same balance, and when they don’t, then I take a little time to reconcile them. But I like this because based on my purchases and my consistent logging of them, it tracks my spending in certain categories and helps me manage my budget, whether I’m paying for stuff in cash or by card. Since you can make scheduled payments and view reports that give you visual data about your spending, you can consistently have accurate knowledge about how much money is in your account, and where it is going.

Money Wiz

The application took the place my using microsoft money for many years until I went to Apple products exclusively. It is simple but totally complete for tracking several accounts with easy to access reports. It can be used effectively on a laptop as well as a tablet using the mobile app. Great product!!

Regular Crashes and no way to categorize miscellaneous incomes

Ive experienced pretty frequent crashes - which is pretty annoying - but have just learned to quit the program intermittently so that I dont lose much if it happens. My main complaint, however, is the lack of versatility when it comes to categorizing incomes… like if I return something that was purchased on my credit card, I cant credit that money back to the category that the item was purchsed under. This also comes into play when trying to track work expenses and reimbursements. I was surprised that this capacity was absent. It seems like a total necessity. Otherwise the program does a pretty decent job. Please, MoneyWiz, find a way to integrate this function so I dont have to start over with a different program!

Great app!

But I am totally frustrated in trying to register for the online help portal-MoneyWiz Support account…..a vicious circle and I shouldn’t have to call to set it up. Other than that I use this app daily and it’s been great…..until I want to get some help with an answer that is not in the forums. And email them? Forgedaboutit. I’m sure I’ll stumble upon the answer at some point but help should not be so hard.

Long-Time User with More Recent Problems

I’ve been using MoneyWiz for several years and overall have been quite pleased. I’ve given it 4 stars even though I’m about to list a whole series of problems. But those problems are focused on one area of the product and can be avoided. I’ve looked at a lot of competitive products and still prefer MoneyWiz over anything else. But with v2, Online Banking was introduced. I really liked the idea of being able to bring up MoneyWiz and have it automatically download and categorize my transactions, so I signed up for a year subscription. I did this based on the quality of the previous version and the responsiveness of the MoneyWiz team to problems. Sadly, I was very disappointed with Online Banking. There were numerous problems, some of which still exist. Here’s what you need to be aware of: The download-and-import process uses different code from Online Banking. If you import your transactions from both sources for comparisons you may get different information in Payee and Description fields. My experience is the download-and-import process is much more complete, accurate, and useful. You may not get check numbers imported through Online Banking that do show up in download-and-import. Auto-categorization of Online Banking can be very poor. The quality varies by source - Yodlee or Saltedge - and by information from the financial institution. Categorization via download-and-import is much better and more consistent. Also, Online Banking will automatically generate a new category at the top level of the hierarchy if it doesn’t think your transaction matches any of the categories. If you’ve created your own categorization hierarchy, this can really mess you up. It doesn’t let you know it’s done this so unless you carefully inspect each new transaction or carefully review your categories after import there’s no way to know. Then you need to manually edit and correct both the categories and transactions. This can be a royal pain. The good news is with v2.4 it’s planned to give you options to control this better by account. I had numerous other problems with Online Banking, such as expense transactions coming in as income, vice-versa, sometimes getting duplicate transactions, sometimes duplicates with both income and expense transactions, etc. I worked a long time with the MoneyWiz support team and I was very pleased at their responsiveness for getting many of these problems resolved. But ultimately the autocategorization problems caused me to turn off Online Banking. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a refund for the subscription from MoneyWiz, who sent me to Apple. Apple reviewed my request and refused it, even when I provided the very long string of emails documenting the problems. Apple sent me back to MoneyWiz who said they wouldn’t refund either all or the unused portion of my subscription. This left me both frustrated and disappointed. All that said, there is a great deal of MoneyWiz that’s very, very good - thus my 4 star review. I wish they’d look at a different report printing engine that gave us more control of the formatting. Reports generally use very large fonts and waste lots of paper space. A few other minor complaints similar to that.

Slowly declining

I’ve been a long-time MoneyWiz user. I was looking for a simple, fast app that could sync easily between devices. MoneyWiz was it. However, the UI in the latest versions has become much slower, requiring me to slow down my input in order to not mis-register keystrokes. Moreover, the latest versions the app keep asking me how I like using MoneyWiz. A thumbs down prompts me to contact support, a thumbs up prompts me for a review. Not only annoying, it’s encouraging me to look elsewhere for a finance tracking app.

Great app for finance

I purchased MoneyWiz almost a year ago after trying different ones and it does the job. You can have different currencies (my top priority), and it adapts with the daily rate automatically. You can easily add your bank, and connect your account. Works fine in the US but still waiting the integration for my other bank. I have it on my Mac and iPhone and I can track all my expenses on the go or at home. This is definitely a must have for financials! Will rate it 5 stars as soon as I get my bank integration.

App Will Not Open After Latest Update

Updated to most recent version (released to fix bugs) and now the app will not open.

Great App

I have used this app for about two and half years. It is a wonderful way of keeping a real time running total on all your accounts. MoneyWiz continues to make improvements to the app, so it gets better with each release. Keep up the great work guys! Note: Up graded to version 2.3.1 love all the advancements! Wonder app. Thanks

Great finance app + Great Support!

Amazing customer service!! I made a big mistake deleting something which could’ve turned into a nightmare but I got help from tech support immediately and step by step instructions to fix the problem, with quick follow up emails. Everything’s fine now and I’m back in business with the best finance app around.

Yes - so far so good after update

I use this daily and like it especially the sync function.

Flores

This program was difficult to understand at first. Then I got the hang of it. But…. when it came time to figure out spending for tax purposes, I could not get a report that made any sense. I wanted to categorize the spending to calculate the amount in each category, but didn’t happen. I had to do it all by hand and still don’t know if I got it right. I won’t use the program any longer. No good. :(

Highly recommended!

I am using this app for 3 years now and I never had any problem with it. Its simple to use and easy to understand. It is worth to improve: 1. Move older transactions to history (offline). 2. In EU bank you can have accounts denominated for example: in local currency and in USD. It would be nice if money transfer let’s say of $200.00 from USD account to local currency account could be initiated by entering data in one window (where I can specify equivalent of $200.00 in local currency). 3. Please make it split-ready for the latest OS X. Dear Developers - Thanks for great app!
